Knowing how the portraits will be used helps us choose a location that supports the final result.
Consider How You Want Your Portraits to Feel
Do you want your portraits to feel relaxed and coastal, warm and connected, polished and professional or creative and unexpected?
A beach can create open, natural portraits with plenty of movement. A forest may feel grounded and intimate. A studio offers a clean, controlled setting. Your business or workspace can add context and help tell the story of what you do.
There is no single right answer. The best setting is one that feels aligned with you.
Choose a Location That Tells Your Story
A meaningful location can add another layer to your portraits.
For a family session, this might be a beach you visit together, a favourite walking trail or your own home.
For a branding session, it could be your office, studio, storefront or another setting that reflects the experience you provide to clients.
Your location does not need to be literal. We can also choose a setting based on the colours, textures and overall feeling that best represent your family, personality or business.

If you need several different images, we may choose a location that offers variety within a small area.
A setting with a beach, trees, pathways and open space can create several distinct looks without spending valuable session time travelling between locations.
For business branding sessions, we may also combine indoor and outdoor settings or incorporate multiple areas of your workspace. This can give you a broader collection of images for your website and marketing.
Consider Comfort and Accessibility
A location needs to work for everyone involved in the session.
We will consider:

- Access to indoor shelter or an alternate plan

Your home or workplace may also be a meaningful option. Photographing you in your own environment can help family portraits feel personal and business images feel authentic to the work you do.
